Gujarat Emerges as a Key Renewable Energy Manufacturing Hub as MNRE Takes BRE Summit 2026 Roadshow to Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad roadshow highlights Gujarat’s 52 GW renewable energy capacity and growing leadership in solar, wind, green hydrogen and clean energy manufacturing

Ahmedabad: Gujarat’s growing prominence in India’s renewable energy landscape came into sharp focus as the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) hosted the Ahmedabad edition of the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo (BRE Summit) 2026 roadshow. The event marked the fourth stop in a nationwide roadshow series following Jaipur, Mumbai and Hyderabad, ahead of the flagship summit scheduled from 2 to 5 November 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

The Ahmedabad roadshow brought together senior government representatives, renewable energy companies, manufacturers, investors, technology providers and sector experts to discuss India’s rapidly expanding clean energy ecosystem and Gujarat’s role in the next phase of the energy transition.

The roadshow was organised by MNRE in knowledge partnership with the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI), with support from the Gujarat Federation of Solar Industries (GFSI).

Addressing the gathering, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Hon’ble Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, highlighted Gujarat’s ambitious renewable energy plans and its growing contribution to India’s clean energy transformation. He noted that Gujarat has set a target of 105 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, while emphasising the state’s progress across solar, wind, green hydrogen, energy storage, offshore wind and clean energy manufacturing.

He also invited Gujarat’s government and industry stakeholders to participate actively in the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 and showcase the state’s projects, technologies, investment opportunities and future ambitions.

Shri Rushikesh Patel, Hon’ble Minister of Energy and Petrochemicals Department, Government of Gujarat, underlined the importance of responsible and sustainable development. He said that Gujarat’s renewable energy journey is closely linked with environmental responsibility and the need to protect future generations, calling for greater participation and faster action to achieve the state’s clean energy ambitions.

Gujarat currently has 52 GW of installed renewable energy capacity, accounting for 17.82 per cent of India’s overall renewable energy capacity. The state ranks first nationally in wind energy installations and second in solar energy, further strengthening its position as one of India’s leading clean energy markets.

The state’s renewable energy ecosystem includes 15,850.56 MW of wind capacity and 32,302.7 MW of solar capacity. Gujarat has also established strong leadership in rooftop solar, with more than 13.45 lakh installations generating 7,408.10 MW. The sector has contributed significantly to employment, creating an estimated 2.37 lakh direct and indirect jobs.

The Ahmedabad programme commenced with introductory remarks by Shri K J Shah, MD, Zodiac Energy and National Governing Council Member, NSEFI, followed by context-setting remarks from Shri Dhananjay Kumar, Director, Engie and National Governing Council Member, NSEFI. Shri Subrahmanyam Pulipaka, CEO, NSEFI, provided an overview of India’s renewable energy growth and the country’s clean energy success story.

Shri Abhay Bakre, Mission Director, National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), outlined the strategic objectives and participation framework for BRE Summit 2026. He highlighted the significant expansion of India’s renewable energy capacity and explained how BRE Summit 2026 is evolving beyond an investment-focused platform into a broader forum for policy, innovation, technology, manufacturing and global collaboration.

He also highlighted the participation of Denmark, the European Union, the UK, Germany and the Netherlands as official partners, creating opportunities for Indian states and industries to connect with international investors and technology providers.

Shri Ashwini Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Energy and Petrochemicals Department, Government of Gujarat, said Gujarat has consistently worked towards maintaining leadership in renewable energy and is now expanding its focus beyond solar and wind into green hydrogen, energy storage and emerging technologies. He also acknowledged the continued support and collaboration of MNRE in strengthening India’s clean energy transition.

The Ahmedabad roadshow is part of a nationwide outreach initiative ahead of BRE Summit 2026. Following Jaipur on 24 August, Mumbai on 27 August and Hyderabad on 31 August, roadshows are scheduled to continue in Lucknow, Bengaluru and Kolkata in the coming weeks.
